Wireless Sensor Network are in great demand from the recent years, as nowadays we have seen a wide growth of wireless devices including cellular phones, laptops, mobiles, PDA's etc. Wireless Sensor Networks consists of thousands of tiny sensor nodes. In a wireless sensor network a node is no longer useful when its battery dies, so to avoid this problem many routing protocols were introduced. Wireless sensor network is a collection of a large number of small nodes which acts as routers also. These nodes carry very limited power source which is non-rechargeable and nonreplaceable which makes energy consumption an significant issue. Energy conservation is a very important issue for prolonging the lifetime of the network. As the sensor nodes act like routers as well, the determination of routing technique plays a key role in controlling the consumption of energy.

Wireless sensor networks play very important role to sense various atmospheric and environmental condition such as temperature, pressure, humidity etc. wireless sensor networks contain various nodes and these nodes are connected to each other. These nodes are made up of various electronics chips which enable them to sense particular parameter. All types of sensor are powered by various energy sources like batteries, solar power etc. the technique these sensor node use to share real time data depends upon the communication protocol which is considered as very important parameter in wireless sensor network. In this article we describe detail analysis of energy efficiency of wireless sensor network and also describe comparison of various protocol which are used in wireless sensor network.

Energy efficient routing protocols for wireless sensor networks: comparison and future directions

2017
– Wireless sensor network consists of nodes with limited resources. Hence, it is important to design protocols or algorithms which increases energy efficiency in order to improve the network lifetime. In this paper, techniques used in the network layer (routing) of the internet protocol stack to achieve energy efficiency are reviewed. Usually, the routing protocols are classified into four main schemes: (1) Network Structure, (2) Communication Model, (3) Topology Based, and (4) Reliable Routing. In this work, only network structure based routing protocols are reviewed due to the page constraint. Besides, this type of protocols are much popular among the researchers since they are fairly simple to implement and produce good results as presented in this paper. Also, the pros and cons of each protocols are presented. Finally, the paper concludes with possible further research directions.

A Survey on Energy Efficient Hierarchical Routing Protocol in Wireless Sensor Network
Ruchira Bhargava
As the wireless sensor network (WSN) is concerns, it is the huge network of low-cost micro sensors. The fundamental challenge in the design of WSN is to enhance the lifetime of the network. The power consumed due to various kind of data is transmitted from the node(s) to the sink i.e. BS which limits the network lifetime. The battery of the node is difficult to change, due to this problem the energy efficient routing is used to solve these problems. This paper outlines the advantages and objectives of Hierarchical clustering for WSNs. The comparison made between different hierarchical routing protocols and their behavior in the environment. Important factor to design protocols for WSN is the energy of nodes due to limited power availability. In this literature reviews we study hierarchical routing protocols which are used in wireless sensor networks.

Network Protocols and Algorithms Consumption of Energy and Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Network
Ridha Azizi
Extend the life of a wireless sensor network (WSN) is a fundamental challenge, as they have a limited supply. Multiple protocols and approaches have been proposed to minimize power consumption. Routing protocols and especially the hierarchical approach is one of the techniques used to minimize energy consumption and to improve the duration of network life. In this paper we propose a new approach to transfer and select the CH (Cluster Head). ART-LEACH (Advanced Routing Transfer-Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) is a self-organizing protocol based on clustering. Our approach is to use energy more evenly the selected nodes as CH. We evaluated the performance of LEACH (Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) and IB-LEACH (Improved and Balanced Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) protocol with the proposed new approach using MATLAB as a simulation tool. The simulation results showed that our proposal provides a reduction in energy consumption and increase the duration of network life.

Hierarchical Routing Protocol in Wireless Sensor Network–A Survey
Ali Newaz Bahar
International Journal of Scientific and Engineering Research
The area of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is one of the most emerging and fast growing fields in the scientific world. It consists of a collection of sensing devices and these sensing devices are known as sensor nodes. Each sensor nodes are deployed into the network to monitor the physical or environmental condition such as temperature, sound, vibration at different location. The data is transfer over the network and each sensor node consumes some energy in sending data and receiving data. In WSN, the lifetime of the network depend how much energy spent in each transmission. The efficient use of energy source in a sensor node is most desirable criteria for prolong the life time of wireless sensor network. So designing efficient routing protocol for reducing energy consumption is the important issue in the network. A large number of routing protocol has been proposed since few decades. Some of the most popular routing protocols are LEACH, PEGASIS, TEEN, APTEEN and HEED. This paper r...

Abstract- Wireless sensor networks are catching up as the primary mode for monitoring and collecting data in physically challenging environments. They find applications in various fields varying from environment monitoring, military applications to monitoring patients in hospitals. The low cost, ad hoc deployment, distributed sensing, and adaptability of wireless sensors have given them a big advantage over other methods. The constraints due to their inherent features make routing in wireless sensor networks a big challenge. This paper covers a number of routing protocols being used in the current systems. The stress is on energy aware routing where the network optimizes between efficient routing and maximizing life of the network.
